What is Book Society?

 

Welcome! Book Society is a book store, wine lounge and community space where you’re encouraged to unwind and discover something new. We offer a well-curated selection of new books for purchase along with wine and non-alcoholic beverages and a menu featuring select lite bites to accompany your visit.

Do I have to be a Member to visit Book Society?

 

Membership is optional for guests who would like to elevate their experience or anyone who aspires to support an independent, women-owned business. Learn more about what a Membership offers here. Otherwise, you are welcome to stop in and enjoy Book Society anytime during business hours or for special events.

 

Are children allowed at Book Society?

 

Because we are designated as a bar per California state law, children are not allowed at Book Society–this includes infants and toddlers in strollers or carriers. All guests must be 21 to enter.

 

Can I bring my well-behaved pet into Book Society?

 

Our food and alcohol license does not permit pets on premises. Service animals are welcome.

 

Do I need a reservation to visit Book Society?

 

Our shelves are always open for browsing during store hours, and seating is available on a first come first served basis. Even during our busiest hours, seating generally opens up without too much of a wait as traffic ebbs and flows throughout the space.

 

Book Society offers a book club package for book clubs and small groups hosting a special occasion.

 

Can I bring my laptop and work remotely from Book Society?

 

Book Society is a place to relax, unwind and unplug, which is why we are a laptop free zone.

 

Can I bring my own book to read at Book Society?

 

Absolutely! As a book store, our shelves are lined with new books available for purchase, but outside books are also welcome.

Can I bring outside food?

 

Our food and alcohol license does not permit outside food and beverage; however, we have a tasty menu of lite bites. See the menu here. We are always happy to offer recommendations in the neighborhood for a more robust meal pre- or post- your visit, too.

Are you hiring? 

 

While we aren’t always hiring, we do look forward to connecting with talented, community-minded individuals with experience in the book and/or hospitality industries. Please send us a short letter of introduction and attach your resume via email at hello@booksociety.social if you’re interested in potential employment.

 

Can I book a private event at Book Society?

Can I shop online?

 

Yes! Visit our storefront on Bookshop.org to purchase and support Book Society without a visit to our physical location. For audiobooks, visit Libro.fm to shop and support.

 

Do you carry magazines?

 

We carry new (as in not previously loved) books across multiple genres. We do not carry children’s titles, magazines or academic journals.
