Book Society, 2945 College Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705, USA
About the event
Kick off spooky season with an unforgettable evening of mystery, myth, and wine. Local author Renee Humphrey will join us to share her haunting debut novel, Summer Fruit, where a body washing ashore on a remote island unleashes a chain of secrets, spiritual visions, and wild instincts. Set against the backdrop of the Pacific Northwest’s beauty and danger, this genre-defying story is steeped in myth, mystery, and emotional depth.
Adding to the intrigue, Renee’s brother Kent Humphrey—General Manager at Enkidu Wine—will join the conversation and lead us through a tasting of wines named for the ancient Sumerian figure Enkidu, a voice for nature: pure, principled, and adventurous. It’s the perfect pairing for a story where the natural world itself becomes a character.
Come ready for a mysterious, sensory evening that blends literature, wine, and self-discovery—maybe even of your own animal spirit match—the perfect way to welcome October’s eerie magic.
